The short of it is I was supposed to be in Haiti on the 10th. Because of rioting and demonstrations the airport closed and on Wednesday the 8th I got a call that my flight was cancelled. It was rescheduled for the 15th and then to Monday the 13th. Then, on Friday my Monday flight got cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday the 18th. I called every hour or two all weekend to try to get an earlier flight. Nothing ever opened up…they were booked solid through the 18th. Then I woke up Monday morning at 11 and called first thing expecting to hear the same diddly that I had been hearing.
Well, I didn’t. The lady was like, “We have an opening for the 7:35am flight into Port-au-Prince from Miami tomorrow morning. We could get you on a flight out of Minneapolis at 4:15 or 5:25 this evening.” All my breath immediately left my body and I passed out!! (okay, that’s a lie…but i was freaking out) Anyway, I said to the AA lady, “ummmm I probably have to make this decision right now, huh?” She of course said yes and I proceeded to agree to the reality of arriving in Haiti that next morning.
It was LITERALLY the first flight back into Port after flights started again. THE LORD GOT ME ON THE FIRST STINKING FLIGHT!! Seriously, ridiculous! I was sitting there in the Miami airport literally smirking and shaking my head because I couldn’t believe the Lord had done yet ANOTHER miracle in my life regarding Haiti. Dang, dang, daaaaaaang!
The moral of the story is, Tuesday morning I stepped foot onto my favorite little island in the whole wide world. The older group of girls that are in the Rescue Center practically drowned me in hugs yesterday. :) Oh man, I am so blessed you guys. For real, God is so so good.
I am going to try my best to update this blog. I will for sure be updating my twitter (@jesslehman) and my Facebook status daily.
That’s all for now…if I start slacking on blogging just send me a Facebook message telling me to shape up. I need a good push once in a while. :)
Until next time, “peace out.”
